Beauty and Mystery in Druid Hill Park

No Consolation

The world of Druid is askew in images of momentary or lengthy disarray. Fading sad words were carved on this tombstone in the park’s original Rogers and Buchanan family cemetery, sometimes weed covered, sometimes trimmed:  “Here lie the remains of Eliza Rogers, wife of Lloyd H. Rogers. She was eminently gifted with all the qualities in woman that win the esteem, the love and admiration of others. But to dwell upon her virtues cannot sooth the dead and gives no consolation to the living.”
